Not good news

I asked Emmeline to log me in so that I could post this message - Colin.

Linda was recovering well, but always knew that she was very vulnerable to infection, with no resources to fight bugs that most of us would not even notice. Something over a week ago, she acquired a gastric illness, which made her feel rather bad, but it should have been treatable. Then she got a lung infection, which was harder. On Friday, things became more critical and they transferred her to the nearby General Hospital [where she had been treated in the past]. They carefully addressed the infections and the symptoms, stopping short of admitting her to ITU, as they felt that was not in her best interest. I was with her until late Friday night, going home only when she settled for the night. Early yesterday morning [Saturday] she died peacefully.

Linda greatly appreciated the comments and support she received here. Thank you so much. Even when she had no computer/Internet access, I would frequently pass on a printout to her. Do feel free to post any final thoughts here - my family and I will be looking.

I will be reviving my blog, where I will post news, and my thoughts and observations. If you wish to contact me directly, you are welcome to do so from there.

In keeping with Linda's wishes, although we will no longer post to this blog, the Web site will stay live for the indefinite future, in the hope that the information herein will be a useful resource.

Update

They identified the bug Mum's got as C-Dif - she has had this before. Today, she was feeling even more poorly and they have found that she has a lung infection too. This evening she was moved to Cheltenham General Hospital (Rendcombe Side Rooms) where they are better able to treat her.

Books and food

I still don't have access to the internet but am able to send you this message. Hope you're enjoying the sunshine. My nurses have been saying that it's too hot and we have all the fans going. They also say how much they enjoy the evenings.

Colin and Emmeline have brought me a pile of books from one of our favourite charity bookshops on Saturday and Emmeline found herself a book too. I asked for old cookery books and biographies. I'm interested in what people ate in the childhoods; food has changed so much in the last 50 years!

Recovering from another bout of diarrhea. I'm challenged by what to eat here.
